Free Raised Garden BEDS!!
It all starts with that perfect craigslist ad. I saw this and thought WOW those would make some perfect raised beds.
I only had a hour for lunch and this place was 24 min away it was going to be a close trip haha. But sustainable Scott doesn't make excuses he just makes it happen. I got permission from my boss incase I was a little bit late. Then I loaded up the truck and got on the way. When I got here it was a little confusing because this was a large warehouse and there were signs that said no trespassing. I drove through the gate and went all the way around the building then I saw them. Who would have thought that trash would be so beautiful. But one mans trash is another mans treasure. lol
I got home with two minuets to spare. Then I waited til after work to unload and then next day during lunch I went to pick up all the soil.
Just to save everyone some wasted money and time I will share my experience with soil costs.
For the longest time I used to purchase my soil from home depot, and lowes, then I changed to a garden nursery, finally I found a place not to far away where they sale soil wholesale. At home depot I paid 10-15 $ a bag. But here I found it for 15$ a truck load. This place sells soil wholesale and they sell by the semi truck. So when a small truck comes in they don't frown too much for selling it so cheap, when they sell 500-2000 a load. I even got a load for free when I came one day and their credit card machine was down.
Look at all that beautiful soil!! For 15 $ now that's sustainable costs. Lucky for me the operator is precise in unloading in my short bed truck.
I went ahead and added this small bed above the other one. I will only water the top bed and all the water will fall to the one below. It the old two birds one stone trick again.

I ran out of soil to fill them all the way so I will definitely have to make a second trip.
Here is the video. See who needs to pay money for a gym membership? I'm all about that free workout, while growing my own food. It's what sustainability is all about...
